    2012 Charity Bazaar Update

    ANNUAL CHARITY BAZAAR 2012

Dear Members, Bazaar Team, Stallholders, Friends, Volunteers, Embassies and Donors,

    Thank You Very Much

This year 49 countries were represented by 40 Stalls as follow: Italy, Palestine, British Stall, Colombia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine, Greece, The Philippines, Mexico, Russia, Austrian Stall, Cyprus Stall, Ecuador, Belgium, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Japan, French Stall, Turkey, USA, Republic of Seychelles, Ireland, Czech & Slovak Stall, Embassy of Pakistan, Argentina, The Netherlands, Indonesia, Brazil & Portugal, Deutschland, Serbia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Vietnam, Nordic-Baltic Stall (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden), Poland, Armenia, The People’s Republic of China, Embassy of Israel, Sovereign Order of Malta.

The following IWC Stalls were represented by IWC volunteers, with a big thanks: the IWC Charity Foundation, Patchwork and Handicraft, Book Stall, IWC Clothes Stall (2 sections), Photos with Santa, International Bake Stall, Bric-A-Brac, Toys Stall, Big Tombala, Auction Corner. Last but not least, our gratitude goes also to Sofia Municipality, Smile Bulgaria, Karin Dom, Devam Foundation, Rodjestvo Hristovo, Star of Hope, Light for Life, and the Bulgarian Moroccan Association.

The IWC Annual Charity Bazaar 2012 is the one day trip around the world in the colorful and attractive stalls with traditions, customs, culture and shows on the stage. Our slogan was ‘Светът идва при теб’ ‘The World Comes to You’.

The IWC Annual Charity Bazaar 2012 was a feast, a taste of national cuisine, art, folklore, souvenirs, music, dance, craft, literature, clothing, friendship and lots of fun. All your efforts made our bazaar more successful. I appreciate every single one of you for your contribution that was extremely important to reach this success. Your energy, endeavor, eagerness, spirit, and willingness led to this fantastic result.

We had more than 8500 visitors, and 1500 volunteers, on the day of the bazaar.

    What’s New?

After the absence of a German stall at the IWC Charity Bazaar for over 3 years, a group of German women (non-diplomatic) have gotten together and ensured the German presence at 18th IWC Annual Charity Bazaar 2012. They achieved a great success.

This year for the first time we had a workshop area where different stalls had a chance to demonstrate traditional arts and crafts. The workshop area attracted many visitors who enjoyed themselves participating in the creation process.

Another first is the auction corner where we had numerous items. The bidding was exciting and fun.

    What We Achieved

The grand total of all the funds collected during the 2012 IWC Charity Bazaar is 320,505.84 BGN according to the financial data of 8th January, 2013. This figure includes money raised on the day of the bazaar by country stalls, IWC stalls, ticket sales as well as donations from commercial and private sponsors transferred directly to the IWC account.

The five country stalls with highest results are: Italy with 44,039.06 BGN; France with 34,290.87 BGN; Greece with 20,976.41 BGN; Bulgaria with 20,152.43 BGN and Turkey with 13,174.00 BGN.

I am very happy that we completed together what we had promised from beginning. We could not reach this achievement without you. It was my pleasure to work together.

    Kind Regards,

    Fatma SENEM USTUN
    IWC Charity Bazaar Coordinator 2012

    Pink Ladies” by Gayatri Manchanda

Pink Ladies, 11×15 inches by Gayatri

Gayatri started painting about fifteen years ago, beginning with simple scenes of men and women going about the business of living their complex lives. She concentrates on two mediums – watercolours and acrylics. What she enjoys most is paintings of Indian folk and classical dancers trying to capture their movements as they create their magic on stage.Gayatri has not formally trained in art. She has an M.A. in English literature from Delhi University and a B.Ed degree as well. However she has taken advantage of the computer to interact with artists on websites and they have helped her greatly – trained artists giving good advice on compositon and colour, and tips on how to improve on technique while encouraging her to continue with her own style and interpretations.
She has changed much in her painting style over the years. She has attempted to capture the spirit of the current changes taking in India. It does not seem to be correct to continue portraying India as a land of largely rural people. It is in a great state of economic and social flux. As it tries to rise out of the past it is difficult to portray on canvas what it is really going through. Her abstracts reflect some of this ambiguity. Also since she has spent so many years living out of her country she feels this is a more honest way of painting. But she does plan to go back to a figurative style eventually.
By travelling to and living in many different countries – Egypt, Sri Lanka, Portugal, Canada, Russia and now in Bulgaria- as the wife of an Indian diplomat she is fortunate to have had a chance to be exposed to some really great artworks. These have been a great inspiration to her.
As an artist Gayatri insists one is forever learning. You can never stop.

    Belgian Chocolate Statue

The chocolate sculpture on sale was made on 24 October 2012 by master-chocolatier Stéphane Leroux during a demonstration in the Hilton on the occasion of the 7th Belgian Week in Sofia. The sculpture weighs 15 kg and is made out of white chocolate and dark chocolate with a cocoa level of 55 %. The chocolate used is of the“Belcolade” brand, a professional product made by the Belgian company Puratos, which is also present in Bulgaria. It took Mr. Leroux 30 years of experience and 2 working days to make it.
The showpiece contains floral and vegetable elements, such as a bamboo stick and a dahlia flower, which are typical for this type of demonstration sculptures. The future owner will be confronted with the excruciating choice between eating the sculpture, or enjoying it as a piece of art. The sculpture can be kept for a very long time, ideally at a temperature of 20 degrees and protecting it from humidity.
This is probably the most original and exclusive Christmas present money one can buy for a beloved one. Bidding will start at 300 leva.

  • Become a Stall Holder at the 2012 Charity Bazaar!

Embassies and members of various communities are invited to volunteer and/or host stalls at our 2012 Charity Bazaar. A country stall does not necessarily need to be organized by the embassy of that country. If your country is not yet represented, and you would be interested in hosting a stall, or if you would like to volunteer at an existing stall, please contact Debbie at: shc.iwcbazaar@hotmail.com

To date the following countries have registered their stalls:
Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil-Portugal, British, Bulgaria, China, Colombia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech-Slovak, Dominican Republic, France, Georgia, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Netherlands, Nordic-Baltic Countries (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden), Palestine, Philippines, Poland, Republic of Seychelles, South Africa, Turkey, Ukraine.
