    Dear Ladies,

A new board has been elected and I would like to thank those who came to the AGM in April and voted or who sent in their proxy voting slip. I feel very honoured that you have decided to elect me as the President of the club this year and I follow in some great footsteps.

I would like to give a big thanks to the out-going board for the huge amount of work that they have done this past year. I hope that those who are not working on the board this year will get a well earned rest but will still take an active part in our club. I feel that a particular mention should go to Avantica, our retiring President, who has served on the board for the last three years and who has put an enormous amount of time and energy into the running of the club.

    Dear Friends and Members,

I hope you are doing great! I’d like to address a few issues in this newsletter. By the time you read this it will be March which means we can look ahead to the joy of the spring season. It is also the time of the year to prepare for a new IWC board to come in. So, the handover and selection of board members are some key activities we need to look into…
This month is choc-a-bloc with exciting activities for adults and kids alike. I’d like to thank all the members and volunteers of the Indian community who have helped us organize the fun activities this month. Explore the Vibrant Indian Culture, Enjoy the Warm Weather and Have a Wonderful Month Ahead!

    Dear Friends and Members,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful winter with your family and friends. This heavy snow and freezing weather makes me want to cuddle up indoors with a warm cup of cocoa. Alas, such luxury is forsaken for the excitement of organizing events, meeting donors and discussing charity projects over long hours and many cups of tea! Despite the lack of sufficient resources, IWC has been able to support various charity projects over the past few years. I’m amazed at the constant and wholehearted dedication of not only our volunteers but also the social workers, directors of the institutions, the Babas, supervisors etc. The smiles on the children’s faces and the aged alike makes it all worthwhile. You can read more about our charity visits and donations in the following pages. At the previous charity action group meeting, we evaluated various projects and the budget for the year was proposed. As always, this was an open meeting for all members who wanted to contribute. If you have any questions regarding the different projects etc, please do not hesitate to contact any of your board members.

    Dear Friends and Bazaar Supporters,
Firstly, let me say a big “THANK YOU!” to all of you, to your families, friends, our embassies, donors, supporters and volunteers. Our charity work and the success of the Bazaar is only possible with your support, hard work, dedication, compassion and large hearts. I salute everyone who is helping us in this noble cause. Helping one child or adult at a time and transforming the lives of the impoverished in Bulgaria is a praiseworthy cause. I’m humbled and grateful for your help in giving them a better future.

    Dear Friends,

I’m happy to announce that all preparations for the bazaar are in full swing! Many things are being organized for the big day and we have had 58 stalls registered to date. If you or your country hasn’t registered your stall, it’s time to do so. The sooner you join, the more fun you can have! We need volunteers and if you, your family, friends or neighbors are interested, please don’t hesitate to contact the board or the bazaar team. Posters and tickets are available at this month’s coffee morning as well as other events during the month so, please take some with you. You could buy tickets for yourself, your family and friends to avoid the crazy rush and long queues on the D-day. This way you and they will have the opportunity to enjoy the amazing bazaar experience in a relaxed manner…

    September 6th – Bulgaria’s Unification Day

    BULGARIA’S UNIFICATION DAY,
    SEPTEMBER 6

The Russo-Turkish War that went down in Bulgaria’s history as the War of Liberation regained Bulgaria’sfreedom in 1878. However, the shattered Ottoman Empire left grave national and ethnic problems. The Treaty of Berlin shortly after the war divided the newly liberated state into five parts: Dobrudja was given to Romania; Macedonia remained under the rule of the Sultan; Eastern Rumelia was granted autonomy within the Ottoman Empire; Pomoravia went to
Serbia; and only the Principality of Bulgaria became an independent state.
On September 6, 1885 a resolute national effort and patriotic élan led to the unification of the Principality of Bulgaria with its capital, Sofia, and Eastern Rumelia with its capital, Plovdiv, into one Bulgarian State.
